    Plan Ahead

Contact your Housing Specialist two (2) months before your planned moving date. You must complete several steps to transfer vouchers from one rental property to another.

    • 1

Email or call your HASCO Housing Specialist. If you are not sure who to work with, call the HASCO main number (425-290-8499) and ask for the name and contact information for your representative.

    • 2

Submit a complete Moving/Rehouse packet. This is similar to the Annual Financial Recertification Packet.

    • 3

Find housing that meets your current needs and is within the financial range for which you qualify (based on the Moving/Rehouse packet).

    • 4

Give the new landlord HASCO’s Request For Tenancy Approval (RFTA) forms. When HASCO receives the completed RFTA, an inspection of the rental is typically completed within 10 days.

    • 5

Give your current landlord the notice required by your lease, which is usually at least 20 days before your move-out date. You are typically required to give notice in writing.

For details about each step listed above, go to the Voucher Holder FAQs.

    Project Based Voucher Holders

    Project Based Voucher Holders

People served in some social services programs live in housing that is tied to their program. HASCO provides Project Based Vouchers to help with rent. When an individual or family completes their program, they often qualify for Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8).

HASCO works with Project Based Voucher holders so they can receive Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8) and choose a new home within Snohomish County.

Moving Out of HASCO’s Coverage Area

It is possible to keep your housing support and move to an area outside of HASCO’s coverage area. This is called portability, meaning you transfer or “port” your rent support to a new Public Housing Agency (PHA). Anywhere outside of Snohomish County is outside of HASCO’s coverage area.

Planning ahead is important. We recommend you contact us at least two (2) months before you want to move.

Contact your HASCO Housing Specialist about when and where you wish to move

HASCO will confirm that you are moving within the rules of your existing lease agreement and qualify for continued rent support

HASCO sends the necessary paperwork to the new PHA, often called the receiving PHA, so the receiving PHA can issue vouchers to your new landlord

The receiving PHA may require you to reapply for support in their coverage area

Your support may change from the level you receive through HASCO; the number of bedrooms and rent amount will be based on the receiving PHA’s standards

You must give notice of your planned move-out to your current landlord according to your lease agreement
