The benefits of smoke-free housing for residents and landlords are well-documented. Smoke-free apartments provide improved air quality to residents and reduce fire risk and maintenance costs. Beginning January 1, 2014, all of HASCO’s Rural Development properties will be 100% smoke-free, as part of HASCO’s move to phase in smoke-free policies at all of its properties with rent assistance. HASCO is planning to implement a smoke-free policy at its public housing properties on July 1, 2014. As of that date, all of HASCO’s properties with rent assistance will be smoke-free.
